Relationship between orthorexia nervosa and self-esteem in Tunisian medical students

Introduction The effect of self-esteem in eating disorders has been investigated several studies, but it’s still not extensively orthorexia nervosa. Objectives To study the prevalence and factors associated with orthorexic behaviors medical students relation self-esteem. Methods A cross-sectional was conducted through an online survey among faculty medicine Sfax (Tunisia). Participants completed anonymous self-administered questionnaire. We collected their sociodemographic clinical data. Orthorexia nervosa (ON) assessed using self-reported scale, ORTO-15. used Rosenberg’s scale to assess Results Ninety five survey. mean age 25.8±3.4 years sex ratio (F/M) 3.75. average body mass index 23.64±3.53 kg /m2. Fifty-eight percent (58%) reported that they were dissatisfied habits, 27.4% tried control weight. Several methods weight used, most frequent (65.4%) diet physical exercise, none resorted laxatives 8.4% consulted a nutritionist. Self-esteem very low 27.1% 34.7% students. Overall, our participants 52.6%. score ORTO-15 39.19±4.48. significantly correlated use measures (p=0.035) activity (p=0.042). Students had higher tendency for no significant correlation.
